about
All proceeds from this release are going towards saving one of Philly's coolest venues, PhilaMOCA. After being closed down by the city, the space is currently in the process of being rezoned which is no easy task considering they still have to pay for rent and renovations while unable to make money. The problem is even worse now due to COVID-19 and the resulting quarantine, which further limits their ability to raise funds.
Originally released by Mark Dinning in 1959, Teen Angel was part of a trend in popular music that fixated on young love ended suddenly by death. The most famous example of the genre is the Shangri-Las legendary hit "Leader of the Pack" from 1964. DJs initially tried to keep these morbid gems (which they jokingly referred to as "death discs" and "splatter platters") off of the airwaves but ultimately the demand grew too strong.
We recorded this cover at home in 2018 after our licensing company Lip Sync Music put out an open call for covers from this era to be used in the TV show Riverdale. We learned, recorded, and mixed this over the course of about 3 days and had it mastered by our friend Farzad Nejad. The song was ultimately rejected by Riverdale and never ended up seeing the light of day until now.
Dead Cross, Retox, and Qui members dish out subversive hardcore with an indignant smirk; come for the riffs, stay for the synth experiments. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 31, 2024
Knockout debut from a Buffalo, New York-based hardcore band who like their riffs sick, their drums fast, and their choruses sticky-sweet. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 28, 2024
